Posture and setup
Choose a physically sustainable position, keep choice available and begin with a modest duration.
Step 1
Find where natural breathing is easiest to notice.
Step 2
Recognise a long or short breath without changing it.
Step 3
Notice the beginning, middle and end of one breath.
Step 4
Include the whole body in the field of attention.
Step 5
Release counting and finish by orienting to the room.
Obstacles and safety
If breath attention increases panic, dizziness or air hunger, stop, orient outward and seek appropriate guidance.
